With our first child, we battled congestion ALL OF THE TIME and we tried all of the things. It is the worst to see your little uncomfortable, upset and not know how to help or what to try to get them on the mend. Here is our “toolkit” for congestion:
- Start with a humidifier in the room (or rooms) you will be in. We have the cool air humidifier and love it. Doesn’t make our room extra stuffy like the old school heat/steam ones did.
- Here is a link to the Vicks version we have
- Saline. This is the first thing the pediatrician will ask you to use. It loosens everything up. Best to use it before the Nose Frida or bulb.
- We love Little Remedies
- Nose Frida. Yes, you suck the boogers out of their nose. They scream, you panic you’re going to eat boogers, but you don’t. It’s the quickest and most efficient way to get the snot out of their nose after the saline.

- Johnson’s Vapor Bath. It smells so good and is so relaxing to bathe him in.
- Link to Vapor Bath at Target
- Zarbee’s Vapor Rub. Apply to their chest and the bottoms of their feet before bed.
- One of the new smells with lavender π
- Boogie Wipes. I know they seem extravagant and a little unnecessary but after you wipe their nose just a few times you will notice how rough and dry it can get and they are made with natural saline.
- Zarbee’s Mucus & Cough Syrup. Make sure you get the RIGHT version for your baby/child. For infants you need to get the option without honey — reminder, no honey for infants (under one).
- Take baby in the bathroom during a hot shower. The steam is good for you and them. I would even run the shower for 15 minutes hot hot hot and just sit on the floor with him and something to entertain.
Please remember these are only tips from one parent to another, always reach out to your pediatrician to ensure that you are not battling something more serious than congestion and boogies.
