Most Overwhelming Process – What Do I Need?

When we registered for baby stuff, it was the most overwhelming process I have ever been part of. Not only was it crazy to scroll through so many lists and suggestions online… but to walk into the store! Hours of your life in those stores, looking and browsing things you don’t know if you will use or not. Thinking through all price points for your loved ones to choose through. It’s overwhelming.

I posted on my Facebook a post calling to all parents. What did you use… what didn’t you use. This is the combined knowledge I got and wanted to share forward to all of you.

I am going to add a note too, if we bought it or used it… so far, that is.

  • Ergo Baby Carrier
We have a carrier that we shopped around for on Amazon, much more affordable and love it!
  • Gripe Water/Gas Drops
I don’t know if these really work or not. Our pediatrician is all for gas drops but doesn’t like the sugar in the gripe water. We do have them on hand, just in case though.
  • Wipe Warmer
A luxury for sure, we loved using it, but it will dry out your wipes if you don’t add the right amount of water
  • Bouncer/Swing
We have the Momma-Roo Swing (which B is okay with) and the Baby Bjorn Bouncer (at 3-4 months this has been great)
  • Waterproof Mattress Cover and extra sheets
    • At least 3 sets and then layer them, so that if you have to change the bedding in the middle of the night you don’t have to look for anything! Genius!
  • Diaper Genie
This was a hot debate on my Facebook post. We got one and I am so glad we did. It’s nice to have it in the middle of the night or not think about it until it gets full.
  • White Noise Machine
YES!!! We always keep noise on to help our little man, whether it is TV, radio or the white noise machine.
  • Miracle Blanket
  • Best Baby On The Block (video/book)
Lee and I were NOT a fan of this at all. The techniques, although they made some sense were not something we found to work for us. Could totally work for others though.
  • Rock N Play
B totally hated this. I hear it is a love or hate item for babies though. This was recalled and taken off the market in 2019.
  • Comfortable Rocking Chair
We love our glider!! It’s been a center to so much learning with our new guy.
  • Foldable Changing Pad
    Needed for any diaper bag!
  • Aiden and Anaise Blankets for swaddling and lounging
We love these and also a brand Cloud Island at Target — they are softer and larger
  • Sleep Sacks
We love these as well. B wasn’t a regular baby when it came to swaddles or swaddlers (we tried them all), the zipper up, sleeveless have been amazing
  • Pacifiers
The soothers have been amazing for B, but we did register for a ton of brands as we were told that babies usually like different brands and you won’t know until they choose it
  • Pack n Play
Yes, we love it! Sleeping or playing. A safe place away from the dogs
  • Bouncy chair that vibrates
  • Halo Sleep Sack
  • A Good Diaper Bag
  • Soothers
  • Batteries for toys/bouncers
  • Jumbo pack of bottles
Looking back, it would have been helpful to register for this on Amazon, they have a variety pack! You can literally try out all of them to see what you as parents prefer. We got a lot of sample/free bottles from classes and signing up for registeries so that helped us to try a few options
  • Video Baby Monitor
This was the hardest! I am still not in love with ours, but I don’t know that we will have the “perfect” one as I found that each has their pros/cons and you just have to find what works for you
  • Cool Mist Humidifier
Life-saver, B is always congested in this Texas weather
  • Spare/Extra Diaper Bag (just in case or for grandparents)
  • Boppy Newborn Pillow
B loves it at Grammys, but I could have done without
  • Bobby Lounger
I could not imagine life without it. My favorite thing ever!
  • Light Blankets
  • ZIPPER onsies and sleepers
Yes to the sleepers! I would keep him in them all the time if I could
  • Bottle Warmer
    Helpful with breast milk
  • Changing Table
We got this second hand and haven’t used it much yet, but when he moves into his room, I know that we will more
  • Ear Thermometer
We ended up getting the one for the forehead like our pediatrician uses and love it. Update after 1.5 years old, we actually stuck with the ear and rear thermometers, they have been the most consistant with correct temperatures.
  • Hybrid Stroller (snaps in car seat)
This was cheaper and has really worked out for us
  • Nose Frida
It’s gross, but it works! Just have to wrap your head around it
  • Nipple Shields & Creams
  • Baby Einstein Sea Dreams
We can’t wait for him to really enjoy this, it’s on his crib and he’s still in his bassinet
  • Mini Fridge for Nursery
  • Floor Map/Gym
This is amazing for getting the babes to like tummy time. Especially ones with the arches and toys dangling from them… something to see and play with
  • Hot/Cold Pads for the hospital
  • Receiving Blankets
  • Cloth Diapers for burp cloths
Best recommendation! These have been awesome
  • Arms Reach Co-Sleeper
Was a bit of a luxury, but it is seriously one of my top items. To have the option to wheel him into different rooms, straight up to the bed or where ever. It’s amazing. He’s safe but close. AND you can lower one side for easy access to soothe or feed
  • Skip Newborn Cloths and go to 0-3
We needed the preemie/newborn for our little 4-pounder, but I totally understand this advice
  • No baby/newborn shoes needed
  • Don’t waste money on newborn/baby toys — get hand me down, they don’t need much
  • Carseat with removable bases, especially if you have other people that will help watch or transport the baby
This has been super helpful! Each parent has one and the grandparents have one, so only baby B and the carseat need to go from place to place
  • Bumbo Seat
Just now getting the hang of sitting up, but I have heard amazing things about it. We got the one with the tray attachment. These are ALWAYS available used!
  • Grass/Lawn for drying bottles/pump parts
We have one in the kitchen and our bathroom for bottles, Baby Breeza parts and at one point, pumping parts. It really has been great and super easy to clean
  • Splat Mat (once eating to pair under high chair)
  • Hooded Bath Towels
Once you get the hang out it and positioning them in it, they are awesome!
  • Scalp Brush
  • Bulb Syringe
I prefer the bulb syringes over anything, as I am super comfortable with the form. Ha ha! It sounds crazy but certain items just work and mesh with what you need
  • Free & Clear Detergent
We use Dryft and love the smell. Plus Target and HEB always have deals/coupons for it!
  • Car Seat Mirror
The ones with the toys hanging are pretty awesome, just make sure you can actually see the baby in them! My little turtle was super cute but I couldn’t see him at all and it drove me crazy!
  • Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child book
  • Wubba Nubs Pacifier
We got the Dr. Brown version and it’s been awesome! It has snaps and lets you attach any pacifier or teether. Easy to find and B loves chewing on the animal too!
  • Lots of SOCKS, you will lose these
Literally, where do the socks go?!
  • Portable High Chair
  • Einstein Star
  • Books!
Never too many! Story time is the best part of the day for us
